FEATURESCheap Casio? No, it's a vintage Casio from 40 years ago.

ALARM CHRONOGRAPH SA-410 released by Casio in 1982.
Approximately 40 years have passed since its release, but with its simple and well-balanced design, it does not feel outdated at all.
This model won the Good Design Award at the time of its release (1982).

In 2019, Casio's standard digital model, the so-called "cheap Casio" lineup, added the "A700", which looks exactly like this model.
Unfortunately, the A700 is an overseas limited model, but since it looked so much like the SA-410, I couldn't help but buy it online.
(It's about 3,500 yen on Amazon.co.jp etc. It's a bargain)

[CASIO SA-410 + A700]
Although the A700 has a larger LCD screen.
At first glance they look the same
(Left: SA-410, Right: A700)

Below, we will compare SA-410 with A700.

[CASIO SA-410]
[SA-410] No oldness at all
Design that doesn't make you feel
No waterproof function
[CASIO A700]
[A700] The LCD displays two lines.
Same basic design
WATER RESIST
[CASIO SA-410]
[SA-410] MADE IN JAPAN
Vintage Casio proof
[CASIO A700]
[A700] As expected from Chipkashi in recent years.
MADE IN CHINA
[CASIO SA-410]
[SA-410] Stainless steel body
DUAL/TIMER function available
[CASIO A700]
[A700] Plastic body
Changed to SIG/SPL display

To begin with, both the SA-410 and A700 are quite thin.
The SA-410 can be said to be incredibly thin for a 40-year-old digital wristwatch.
In the 1980s, there was a boom in "light, thin, short and small" home appliances made in Japan, and the SA-410 was probably at the forefront of the trend.

Comparing features, the SA-410 does not have a light, but it has dual time and timer functions that the A700 does not have, so in a sense it is more functional than the A700.
The date and day of the week are displayed while the lower right button is pressed.

On the other hand, the A700 does not have a dual time timer function, so the dial display at the top of the LCD has been changed from "DUAL" and "TIMER" to "SIG" and "SPL."
"SIG" probably stands for "(alarm) signal" and "SPL" stands for "(stopwatch) split," but the display position on the dial and the LCD display are quite different, and I can't help but think that this was done on purpose to make it look similar to the SA-410 at a glance.
In the first place, there is no need to display "ALARM" and "SIG" and "SPL" and "CHRONO" separately.

From here, we will compare the features of both models.

[CASIO SA-410 + A700]
[SA-410] Display the date and day of the week with the bottom right button
[A700] Always displays date and day of the week
[CASIO SA-410 + A700]
[SA-410] When displaying dual time
24 hour display
[A700] Press the lower right button
12H/24H display switching
[CASIO SA-410 + A700]
[SA-410] Alarm signal is displayed on the top right
[A700] Alarm signal and dial display
It's off...
[CASIO SA-410 + A700]
[SA-410] Simple stopwatch
[A700] "CHRONO" display on the dial,
It doesn't make much sense...

The "ST" display on the stopwatch and the "CHRONO" display on the dial are completely out of sync, but since the inside is chipkashi, it shares the module (3472) with other models, so I think there is nothing that can be done about it.
The A700's design is generally unconventional and has many imperfections, but it makes sense when you consider that all of these efforts were made to bring the design as close as possible to the SA-410.
Come to think of it, I also use a similar belt.

OldDigitalWatch.jp hopes that CASIO A700 will spark as many people as possible to become interested in the world of old digital watches.
