The DW-1000 is a diver's watch released by Casio in 1982.
It is Casio's first "200m waterproof" model, and while Casio's vintage diver's models are famous for having the "marlin tuna" icon on it, this model has a diver's icon on the dial.
The photo shows a model with a mirrored dial and a red frame, but there are also models with a black dial and a mirrored frame.

I don't own a single so-called "serious sports watch or diver's watch," and in fact, I almost never own a G-SHOCK.(Only the one that came as a set with another watch I wanted at an online auction)
It's no good for me to talk about G-SHOCK, but the CASIO DW-1000 that I'm introducing today can be said to be a completed version of the CASIO vintage diver's watch, which was made before the birth of the first-generation G-SHOCK in 1983.

The DW-1000 features a plastic bezel (bumper) fastened to the front of the stainless steel body with screws, a technique often seen on other companies' models at the time (late 1970s to early 1980s), and can be said to be synonymous with the sports models of the time, which featured waterproof properties.
Many models that adopt this style can be seen in SEIKO's "Digiborg" and "Silver Wave Series."

On the other hand, the well-known CASIO G-SHOCK is a wristwatch that has overturned the conventional wisdom that "watches are fragile" by using an internal mechanism that is independent of the outer shell and a resin bezel for shock absorption, and has now become synonymous with CASIO.
G-SHOCK's resin bezel is made of a material that can be expanded and covered over the main body. F-100 or F-200 Polyurethane resin is used, which is slightly softer (and less durable) than the hard resin used in .

Since the late 1980s, G-SHOCK's sales have exploded, and sports models from other companies have almost ceased to sell.As a result, waterproof watches have become polarized into "full metal diver's watches" and "G-SHOCKs with full resin bezels."

G-SHOCK prioritized impact resistance, so a stainless steel exterior was not used for a long time, and the metal "MR-G" under the G-CHOCK brand was released in 1996, and the full metal G-SHOCK with a square design like the first G-SHOCK was released in 2019, more than 35 years after the release of the first G-SHOCK.
During this time, there are "almost no" models like the DW-1000 with a "stainless steel body + front resin bumper" configuration, including those from other companies.

I think it's about time for a model with a "stainless steel body + front resin bumper" to be released as a new G-SHOCK series.
Personally, I'd like to have high hopes for it, but recently G-SHOCK has been moving more and more towards the high-end route, and the full metal G-SHOCK released in 2018 is over 50,000 yen, making it a model that can't be easily afforded, so there may be little hope for a new model with a simple design under the G-SHOCK brand to be released.

In any case, in terms of design, the DW-1000 is considered to be the basis of the first generation G-SHOCK (DW-5000), but since the birth of G-SHOCK, no digital wristwatch with a design like the DW-1000 has come out for a long time (and even now), which is perhaps a partial credit to G-SHOCK!
