FEATURESA model that takes full advantage of the advantages of analog display

This is the "2way digital" A201 released by Casio in 1981.
This was the first model of Casio's DIGITAL HANDS, which reproduced analog hands with a digital display, as the catchphrase at the time said, "Casio made hands with electronics."
Divided into analog display area and digital display area CASIO AE-74 Another big feature is that you can instantly switch between digital and analog display by pressing the bottom right button.

This model, which can switch between digital and analog display, is called the "Blue Thunder" model because it is the watch worn by the main character Murphy in the movie "Blue Thunder" and appears in important scenes.
Appeared in the movie "Alien" CASIO F-100 Like this model, it is especially popular overseas.
Technically speaking, the model that appears in the movie is a different model called "AA-85" that uses the same module (103) as this model (A201), but the A201 and AA-85 are only slightly different in design of the dial around the LCD, and there is almost no difference.

The LCD of this model has a two-layer structure, and it is possible to display the analog needle display and digital display overlapping each other, as shown in the photo below.
This model is probably the first in the world to have a two-layer LCD screen.
If you look at it from an angle, it seems that the analog display LCD screen is on top of the two layers.

It has been 40 years since this model was released, and since it has a special structure with two layers of liquid crystal, many of the models have damaged liquid crystals (the edges are black due to liquid crystal leakage), so finding one that can display the entire screen clearly is extremely valuable.

Another feature of this model is its versatile display that takes full advantage of the characteristic of "analog display on liquid crystal".
The countdown display used as a one-minute timer in the movie Blue Thunder is actually a one-hour timer.
The analog hand decreases by one every minute, and when the count reaches zero, an alarm sounds and the screen animates like fireworks.
This can be said to be a feature unique to a "digital clock with an analog display" that cannot be found in analog clocks.

The alarm function is more flashy, and when the alarm setting time comes, an animation like the one in the photo below will appear.
This is the image that often appears when searching for this model on the internet.
The date and time cannot be checked while the alarm is on, which is a very unconventional design that ignores the original functions of a wristwatch, which gives us a good impression.
